Life Cycles of Home Ownership is a four-week course (8 hours) that is required for all families who request home repairs. The curriculum was developed in 2015. The program tagline is “Home ownership = Housing + Asset Building.” The class is conversation based, allowing participants a support group setting and learn to network.
Course activities include practical exercises, specific case studies to discuss and implement budgeting, asset building and learning to understand what are we paying for in our insurance policies, taxes and loans. Knowledge in these areas leads to cost savings. We discuss the difference between needs and wants. The unexpected can bring a family into financial crisis. We learn how to be prepared and have a trusted team when crisis occurs in our lives. Each family is mentored through their individual obstacles and given individual tasks to accomplish. Groups like a neighborhood association, a church group, etc. in Kosciusko County can request the class.
